$20,000 Grant Awarded by MCUF and Team One Credit Union

Team One Credit Union and the Michigan Credit Union Foundation (MCUF) proudly presented a combined $20,000 grant to the Greater Michigan Construction Academy to train students for careers in the high demand field of skilled trades.

AT&T will present a $10,000 contribution on Friday to the Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA). The contribution will support efforts to expose underserved high school students to the many skilled trade-based opportunities available to young students who are looking for an alternative to enrolling in a four-year college. Students enrolled in GMCA’s program receive hands-on training through classroom instruction and apprenticeships while working towards the goal of achieving nationally recognized certifications upon completing the program.

MCUF and Team One Announce Community Reinvestment Grant Award

Team One Credit Union and Michigan Credit Union Foundation (MCUF) are proud to announce a combined $20,000 grant awarded to area students to attend training towards skilled trades certification. In a partnership with Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA), students in Genesee and Tuscola counties will begin a two year program focused on providing the knowledge needed to prepare them for careers in the high demand field of skilled trades.

Unions Try to Kill a Private Trade School But Greater Michigan Construction Academy is a success

Michigan high school students can spend part of their day in work training programs, often earning credits from community colleges. This is a win for schools — who may not have the resources to offer these opportunities — and a win for students — who get trained in a skill they enjoy and earn college credit at no cost to themselves.

Greater Michigan Construction Academy awards scholarships to local students

Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) has awarded four scholarships to area students pursuing post-secondary skilled trades education and training. Each scholarship will cover the cost of tuition, books, and fees for the students first year of an available craft training program (2 semesters). Scholarship recipients will begin their classes in the 2017 fall semester beginning in August.

Greater Michigan Construction Academy Graduates 40 Students

 The Greater Michigan Construction Academy will honor forty (40) students who completed their training from six different construction trades including Electrical, Carpentry, Pipefitting, Instrumentation, Ironworking, and Industrial Maintenance Mechanic.  GMCA will hold their Graduation Banquet for the 25 Midland facility graduates on, Thursday evening, May 18th. They will be holding a second graduation event on Wednesday, May 24 at their Lansing facility for the 15 graduates from that location.

Student built Habitat Home move date CHANGED!

Due to scheduling conflicts the date for the move of the student built Habitat for Humanity house has been changed. The move will now take place on Wednesday, May 3rd. Laracey House Movers will move the house to its permanent location at 310 Sam Street, where it will be set onto its foundation.  The house will then undergo the final phase of building, getting it ready for the new homeowners to move in!
